Dude Boots?

My spirit sister in stilettos, Victoria Beckham, has been oft-quoted as saying that she "cannot concentrate in flats" to which I've always been like "tell it girl" because I've been in heels for what has been the majority of my life. I am 4'10". Heels are not only hot but they have become necessary tools for my everyday life. A former coworker noted that I tip toe when barefoot because I most likely have the permanent foot shape of a Barbie doll. Then Mrs. Beckham did THIS. Let's just pause...

It's not the first time I've caught her in flats. I know she does own at least one pair of Lanvin Ballet Flats so of course now I have 2 pairs. I've seen her in flip flops at Disneyland. Understandable. But just everyday errands in London in a pair of chelsea boots? It was so shocking that I was forced to purchase a pair. I took her subliminal recommendation and went with Church's because if I'm going to wear flat man boots, I'm going to go with the best. These boots are...amazing. I sniped them on sale at The Outnet where they quickly ran out of stock. Saks is carrying them in black patent and Net-A-Porter has them in a wonderful patent oxblood. Other designers are also featuring a chelsea boot in their fall looks from Saint Laurent to Tory Burch. I decided on the brogue perforations for added detail. I don't know if I could pull off the smooth leather look for my first pair of flat boots.

Oh, and they smell like leather heaven...

And these are my plans for fall...

Dress For The Job You Want - Cabaret Star

I am looking forward to having a less ratchet reflection now that I finally had enough down time to look for a full body mirror. THIS is what I wore to my retirement party a few weeks ago. An unlucky blogger was caught publicly fantasizing about this maaaarvelous vintage sequins coat from Tin Roof Vintage just for me to go YOINK and grab it for myself. Don't ever tell anyone about a one of a kind item because you just may find yourself being dominated. She was pondering where she could wear such a coat. Girl, you could figure that out later. As you see, I wear this around my house.

My daughter wears it during Adventure Time...

Here I am wearing it at my retirement party...

I wish I remembered what song I was dancing so hard to that I could not even be captured in proper focus.

Vintage hasn't ever really been my thing, but this coat was impeccable. It smelled fresh, the lining was refurbished, and every sequin was in place. And it weighs a ton. But obviously not too heavy for this...

Dress For The Job You Want - Gentrified GoGo Dancer

I very well should be focused relevant issues such as selecting rollover 401(k) funds, defrosting dinner, school clothes for my kids or something, uh, more important, like I don't know...looking for a job? Instead I've been stalking a pair of shiny shorts since 7:30 am. They are in a fall appropriate shade so technically I could wear them on into October and when it becomes too cool, I could always pair them with tights and boots. Now that all of those potential issues have been resolved and I've granted myself mental approval, I still have a 20% off coupon from J. Crew that I guilted from a young salesman with the most intentionally imperfectly roll cuffed jeans.

To be continued...

UPDATE 08/23/13: J. Crew is playing mind shenanigans with notes like "sold out" and "only a few left", so I had to quit with the excuses and go through with the acquisition. They should be here next week!
